John Porter Doors sets FSC Chain of Custody as standard supplier requirement

John Porter Doors, the Sunderland-based manufacturer of engineered and fully accredited timber fire doorsets, has achieved full membership of the Soil Association’s Woodmark certification scheme for forest management and Chain of Custody for forest products through the Company’s membership of the British Woodworking Federation.

Although beyond the normal requirement of manufacturers in the timber doorset sector, from 1st October 2011, John Porter Doors has taken the totally responsible and moral lead in moving to full Chain of Custody certification, as standard, as a mandatory requirement of the supplier chain.

The Company’s ecological and environmental responsibility illustrates total compliance to internationally recognised standards, which works with, and endorses, the Government’s Climate Change Act which commits the UK to an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“Woodmark is one of the original Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited certification bodies for the timber processing industry in the responsible management of the world’s forests,” says Ian McSally, Marketing & Technical Director, John Porter Doors.  “Our membership underlines that the timber we source, and the way we source it, meets every standard from farming, harvesting, processing and distribution in the manufacture and supply of our products for the benefit of our customers.”

“We are pleased to announce this move which will naturally have an impact on our manufacturing processes, on our suppliers, and the way in which we source products and services,” continues Ian McSally, “but our customers can rest assured that, as a responsible manufacturer, John Porter Doors will absorb all cost increases for which we are fully prepared.”

John Porter Doors has a rich trading history of over 80 years and specialises in the manufacture of complete, engineered timber doorsets – inclusive of door leaf, frame, locking system and hardware – and is a recognised supplier to the health, education, leisure, commercial, security and MOD sectors.  John Porter Doors provides fully certificated FD30, 60, 90 and 120 minute fire rated products that comply ahead of time with the many requirements of 2013 CE marking, including PAS24 accreditation for the PAS24Porte range.
